In a hydraulic lift the surface of the input piston is 0.5 m2 and that of the output piston is 50 m2. What is the work done if a 1000 N force applied to the input piston raises the output piston by 2.0 meters?

In a hydraulic lift the force is proportional to the piston surface.

Then, the output force is
Fo = Fi So / Si = 1000 * 50 / 0.5 = 100,000 N

The work is therefore
W = Fo * do = 100,000 * 2.0 = 200,000 J
